Signs You Need Drain Cleaning

Clogs often show warning signs before they become serious problems. Knowing the signs can help prevent a costly repair. Look out for these indicators:
Persistent clogs
Strange gurgling sounds or unpleasant odors
Water backup or overflow
Water damage
Changes in water pressure
Higher water bill
Slow draining
Even if your drains seem to be functioning, partial blockages can build up over time and lead to more significant problems like burst pipes or water damage. Addressing these issues early ensures your plumbing remains in top shape. If you notice any of these signs in your home, contact us at Garrett Plumbing to locate and fix your clog quickly and efficiently. We’ll have your plumbing restored in no time!

| Our Step-by-Step Drain Cleaning Process |

When you call Garrett Plumbing, you can expect a thorough and effective approach to drain cleaning. Our goal is to leave your home better than we entered. Here’s how we ensure your plumbing is free and clear of any blockages:
In-Line Camera Inspection
We start by using a camera to get an inside view of your pipes, identifying the exact location and severity of the clog. This helps us see the problem without having to open up your pipes or cause any unnecessary damage.
Drain Snaking or Cabling
For smaller clogs, we use handheld tools or motorized machines to break up blockages. Larger or deeper clogs may require cabling techniques for a more powerful and effective solution.
Hydro-Jetting
For severe blockages or buildup, we use a high-powered water jet to flush your pipes clean. This method removes built-up grease, sludge, and scale, providing a long-lasting solution to clogs.
Our tools and techniques are designed to clear your pipes while protecting their integrity. We’ll also schedule a follow-up appointment to keep your system flowing smoothly and your home worry-free

Your Drain Maintenance Guide

Your Drain Maintenance Guide
It’s impossible to completely prevent buildup in the pipes, but you can avoid major blockages with the right care. It all starts with good habits. Here are a few tips to keep your drains in excellent condition:

Scrape food into the trash instead of rinsing it down the sink, and dispose of grease in a sealed container.

Use drain covers to catch hair, food particles, and other debris.

Don’t flush paper towels, wipes, feminine hygiene products, cotton balls, and dental floss.

Avoid harsh chemical cleaners. Instead, try a mix of hot water, vinegar, and baking soda to take care of mild clogs.

Schedule regular inspections and professional drain cleaning at least once a year.

Proper maintenance not only prevents clogs but also extends the life of your plumbing system. But if you do find yourself with some blocked pipes, call Garrett Plumbing to restore the flow of your system!

FAQs About Drain Cleaning

Have further questions about drain cleaning? You can check out some of our most common FAQs below or contact one of our expert plumbers for a free quote. We’re here to provide what you need to know so you can be informed and make the best decisions for the wellness of your home’s plumbing.
Can I use a drain snake to remove the clog myself?
We understand that sometimes it may seem more convenient to DIY a problem yourself, but a lot of times it can lead to more issues. While a drain snake might help with small clogs, improper use can damage your pipes or leave blockages partially intact. For severe or recurring clogs, professional tools and expertise are your best bet.
Will Drano damage my pipes?
Most people have reached for Drano at one point or another in their life. It can be a quick fix for a slow-moving pipe, but it won’t get to the root of the problem and could lead to severe consequences when used repeatedly. Chemical cleaners like Drano are often lye-based, which can weaken pipes over time. If you have galvanized pipes, the lye can remove the zinc coating, exposing your iron or steel pipes and causing them to deteriorate. The heat from the reaction could also weaken or soften plastic pipes, and more often than not, chemical cleaners aren’t effective when it comes to major clogs.

If you have a small clog, you’re better off using baking soda and vinegar or hot water. For bigger blockages, it’s best to skip the Drano and contact an experienced plumber. We’ll remove the clog while keeping the integrity of your pipes intact!

How do I keep my garbage disposal from getting clogged?
Many people think the garbage disposal has blades that need to be sharpened, but it’s more like a gear with teeth. Small, gritty bits of food such as eggshells, coffee grounds, or fibrous, stringy foods like certain vegetables and pasta will just end up getting caught in these teeth and causing issues.

For the best care, avoid putting grease, bones, coffee grounds, eggshells, pasta, paper towels, or fibrous vegetables down the disposal. Use cold water while running it, and clean the disposal at least once a month with vinegar and baking soda or a garbage disposal cleaner.
